Ken, Jen's father, had a preference for war and destruction, which led to his disapproval of Jen's profession as a blacksmith and artist. Early History

Much of Jen's early history is unknown, though she was a blacksmith and an artist. Her father, Ken, hated her for that since he and the other gods were into war and destruction. When he came to her and demanded her to make weapons, she denied him, offering to make him protection instead. Ken, however, cast her out believing her to have a heart of a coward.

Approximately a millennia later, sometime after the 11th Century, Ken came to her, seeking her favor. She eventually learned that he was afraid of Malivore, a creature that could make the world forget someone ever existed. Malivore was the ultimate death sentence for a god since they are only as powerful as people's belief in them. Doing as he asked, Jen created sarcophagi so that he and her family could sleep until Malivore's destruction. Even though her father offered her a place at his side, she thought of them as the real monsters and decided to betray them and locked them away. They've slept in the sarcophagi ever since.

Sometime after her father was sealed away, she visited her half brother, Ben, where Ken had kept him chained to a rock, to be eaten alive by monsters. However, one visit in particular was special as she couldn't trust herself with the sarcophagus key and hid the key inside of Ben's torso without his knowing. However, she believed that to truly get rid of it forever, she had to let Ben be absorbed by Malivore. Believing him gone, she's lived with the look of betrayal and have hated what she had done.

Season Four

In The Story of My Life, Jen sits in on Professor Vardemus' lecture covering one of the seven great wonders of the ancient world–the Great Pyramid of Giza. He poses the class a question about their purpose, whether to bury the kings of Egypt or if they're for some unknown higher purpose. Moreover, by whom were they constructed? A student mocks him, suggesting aliens. Though to think supernatural forces or alien life do not exist in some form or fashion is both shortsighted and deeply narcissistic and wonders if anyone believes. One of the students in the dark classroom stands, telling him she believes. Rupert recognizes the voice of Hope Mikaelson.

Later, while observing the sarcophagus, Professor Vardemus rushes back into his office, discovering her. She explains that she loved his lecture and wants to talk more. With time against him, he warns her that if knowledge of the supernatural world is what she seeks, then she must help him to open the sarcophagus. Jen manages to open the sarcophagus, revealing Lizzie. Rupert believes himself too late, but Lizzie bursts awake and uses the sword in Rupert's hand to slice open his neck for her to drink from, completing her transition into a hybrid. Rupert falls to the floor, bleeding out. Lizzie's still hungry and vamps after Jen who attempts to run. Lizzie blocks her exit and attempts to compel her to remain in the room. Before she eats her, she plans to kill Hope first.

Seemingly immune to Lizzie's compulsion, Jen loads the sarcophagus in the back of a pickup truck in the Whitmore parking lot. Hope appears, questioning why she's stealing the artifact and better yet why her locator spell wouldn't track her. Jen tells her it's a long story, but refuses to elaborate on the details. Hope demands answers and threatens violence. Jen tells her that she's a pacifist and doesn't really want to hurt her, but attacks first. Jen picks up the sarcophagus and slams it into her with excessive force and ease. Jen picks up a piece of the destroyed sarcophagus and plans to kill Hope, however Lizzie grabs her arm from behind and siphons from her, catching her off guard. Outnumbered, Jen decides to abandon the fight and flies off into the sky.

In Was This the Monster You Saw?, Jen returns to her hideout finding Lizzie, who she's already met, and another woman, who introduces herself as Aurora de Martel. They know who she really is and they need to know who else is sleeping in the coffins she has stored in the cargo container.

In The Only Way Out is Through, Jen works on a new welding project and tells Lizzie and Aurora she's not talking about her family. They've come with food to make amends and to bribe her with an offering. Aurora pleads with her, explaining that hearing about her family is a matter of great importance. Ultimately, Jen accepts their offerings.

Having won her favor with their offerings, Jen talks to Lizzie and Aurora about her family. She explains that they're a bunch of douchebags, except for Chronos, god of Time, since he never once forgot her birthday. They all thought she was a freak, because she didn't fit in. They were into war and destruction, and she was more into construction. She's a blacksmith and an artist. Her father, Ken, hated her for that. He demanded her to make weapons for the gods, but she refused to make something that takes a life. Instead she offered to make them armor for protection but Ken cast her out. He said she wasn't one of them and had the heart of a coward. In time, she worked alone in her cave, forgotten. Until one day, out of nowhere, Ken came to see her, calling her daughter. He admired her skill at the forge, calling her work unparalleled. Though she was glad to be in his favor, it was her that he needed, and sought the protection she once offered. For the first time, she saw fear in his face. Aurora wonders what makes an omnipotent deity know fear. Jen explains that gods are only as powerful as people's belief in them, which had diminished over the years. However, the ultimate death sentence for a god came along. A creature that could make the world forget you ever existed–Malivore.

Jen continues to recount her family to Lizzie and Aurora. Ken has asked for her help so that he can hide from a fight. The reason for the sarcophaguses. Her family would be spelled to sleep until Malivore was destroyed and, as an incentive, Ken promised a boon to whoever defeated Malivore and woke them up. Lizzie believes something is missing from the story. Malivore is already dead, yet her family is still asleep. Jen explains that she lied. The spell to wake them up never existed. After a millennia, her father was finally offering her a place in the family by his side, but all she could think about was how he punished humans for every little thing with earthquakes, fires, floods. Her family were the real monsters, and she didn't want to be like them. Instead, she locked them up and claimed she destroyed the key. Lizzie is surprised to find out that she betrayed her family. Jen also retorts that should they ever wake up and find out, she'd be in a world of hurt, meaning she can't let them free any of them.

Lizzie doesn't understand. If Jen wanted to rid the world of her family, she could've just tossed those fancy coffins into a volcano or something. Jen claims she didn't want to lose track of them but Lizzie offers a counter explanation. She believes that Jen couldn't bring herself to actually close the door on her family forever. She has similar sentiments with Hope, which makes her assume that it wasn't so easy to betray her family. Aurora knows she never destroyed the key. Jen comes clean and reveals that she hid the key in a place where she'd never be able to get it. She explains that she had a half-brother, Ben, who was treated worse than she was. He was chained to a rock to be eaten alive by monsters and then come back to life and do it all over again. She used to sneak bread and water to him if she could and that was their little secret. However, this one time, she had a secret he couldn't know about. She hid the key inside of him. By his side she explained that their father was asleep and she could set him free, however his curse will remain so as long as their father lived. She believed if he was absorbed by Malivore it could all stop. In their last meeting, she believed him absorbed. The biggest part was that the Malivore forgetting spell doesn't work on the gods, meaning she remembered everything. The look on his face and betrayal. With Malivore dead, wherever Ben is, she believes he's there for eternity. She'll never get the chance to apologize and explain that she hated what she had to do. Lizzie and Aurora exchange looks, knowing that Ben isn't, or no longer, trapped in Malivore. With this new information, they thank Jen for her time and quickly depart. Jen however liked hanging out, offering to do it again sometime.

In Everything That Can Be Lost May Also Be Found, Jen works at her metal shop, Torch 'n Toke, until she's greeted by Lizzie. Jen questions why she's here. Lizzie explains that she and Aurora had a bit of a falling out and asks if she'd like to join her. She has tickets for a monster truck event and doesn't want to go alone. Jen accepts her offer.

Jen and Lizzie return from the Monster Truck rally. She had no idea Lizzie was into that kind of destruction. Jen asks if she'd like to get some coffee and an edible, but Lizzie has something else in mind and pulls over at a pasture with horses. Jen loves horses and tells her that she used to have one as a kid before her father smote it. She'd also sneak down the mountaintop and visit the human stables to feed them apples. Lizzie, however, hands her a basket of apples, much to Jen's surprise, though immediately knows that she's being played. She breaks the basket handle off, a wooden stake, and threatens Lizzie. She's only ever told one person that story and knows that Ben must be free from Malivore and asks where he is. From her point of view, it's pretty obvious that Lizzie doesn't really want to be her friend.

Lizzie and Jen race back to her workshop, calling Aurora. Lizzie questions if she told Ben about the boon, and Aurora threatens to hang up. She explains to Lizzie that she knew he was dangerous which was why she cut the key from him and left him chained to the tree. She questions why she's changed her mind. Lizzie tells her that Jen told her his story and how he'd do anything to bring his old lover back as well as that Chronos isn't in any of those sarcophaguses. Ben lied to them. Jen explains that Ben's cursed and the only he can break that curse is with her father, which her father will only break the curse as a boon in exchange for his freedom. Lizzie knows she screwed up but she knows that Aurora is in Jen's metalshop planning to do something stupid, but begs her not to make any sudden moves. They are in the endgame. Aurora agrees to wait until she arrives, however, she's attacked from behind by Ben as the two listen.

Jen and Lizzie arrive back at the metalshop, they find a large pool of Aurora's blood, but she's missing. Jen also sees that the sarcophagi have been taken, her traps completely destroyed.

Jen tries to comfort Lizzie with leftover burritos. Lizzie doesn't believe she should be making any more decisions. Jen asks if she wants to talk about it. Lizzie's screwed up so many things, even her plans to fix them and how she's hurt so many people she loves. Jen tells her she's good at fixing things, machinery mostly, but offers to help if she can.

Jen convinces Lizzie to return to the Salvatore School and she accompanies her, where she's introduced to MG and Alaric.

In I Wouldn't Be Standing Here If It Weren't For You, her presence is requested by Alaric to see him with Cleo, Kaleb, Ethan, and Jed in attendance. He hands her Cleo's drawing, inquiring if this looks like her father's handiwork. Lightning, fire, death, and destruction. She confirms that it is, though questions where they got the drawing. Cleo explains that she got a vision and Jen assumes that her half-brother, Ben, had awoken her father. Jed defends Ben, as they don't truly know if he's involved. Alaric points out that they do know this is the second piece of evidence pointing to Ken's arrival. They have to assume the worst and come up with a plan to save the school. Jen is sure they can't. Cleo is obviously an oracle and they see things that will happen. Even though she can see the future, she questions if she can't change it. Jen denies that she can. Regardless of what's to come, they have to try. Alaric instructs Jed to take Finch and clear out the school. Jed questions about saving Ben, but Alaric defers him, citing they need to focus on one crisis at a time. He wants Ethan to find MG and evacuate the town and Kaleb offers his assistance too. Cleo doesn't want him to go, but he reassures her that they'll make their own future.

With her father's arrival at the school and with a booming voice, he demands for them to hand her over to him. If they refuse, they'll all die. Alaric, Ethan, and MG discuss their options. Alaric refuses to hand her over and sends Jen away to the werewolf bunker until they come up with a plan.

Jen has snuck out of the school and runs away in the woods, however, Cleo finds her. Jen questions how she found her, and she explains that she's had more vision. The visions didn't stop with Kaleb dying. She saw her running away and when she did, they all died. Jen believes she's here to convince her to come back so they can hand her over to her father. There's nothing people won't do to save their own skin. Cleo knows otherwise. When she first came to this school, Malivore was sending monsters after her. They could have sent her away to save themselves, but they didn't, even after she betrayed their trust. They rescued her from darkness and welcomed her into their family. Jen still refuses. If you saw her leaving, that's what's going to happen. Cleo's already changed the future once today. Jen doesn't understand and Cleo elaborates that Jed saved Kaleb's life and the vision didn't come true. Jen tells her that she never told her she couldn't change the future, but that she shouldn't. Cleo doesn't understand. When she changes the future, she might not be an oracle anymore; she'd become something else. Before she can ask further, Cleo collapses to the ground.

Before Ken can strike Hope down with her own sword, Jen approaches him, telling him to stop. If he leaves them alone, she'll go with him. Ken accepts and approaches her. Grabbing her by the shoulders, they're transported away in a bolt of lightning.

In By the End of This, You'll Know Who You Were Meant to Be, Jen is freed from her torture within the sarcophagi by Aurora.

Having recovered, Aurora prepares her a drink, thinking it will make her feel better. Jen believes her to be the good cop who pretends to be nice to get her to build her dad's weapon. Aurora admits that she's not pretending, nor is she planning on hurting her. She knows she's smart enough to know this resistance is childish. Jen quips backs if she's not smart enough if she'll resume Ken's torture, but that too, she denies. She's seen enough of it in her lifetime and wants no part in it anymore. Jen doesn't believe that considering her father is involved. Her dad has a way of bringing out the worst in people. Aurora believes that Jen misunderstands him and is sure he had a good reason for putting her in the sarcophagus. That is just her point. Ken already has her making excuses for him and he's never wasted much time with the ladies. She questions Aurora about the pitch he served her–was it "reincarnated spirit of my first love" or "be my queen and rule this world by my side." Aurora doesn't answer, but explains that he showed her his memories. Aurora believes that she is the awful one with the rest of her family, unlike the contrived little sob story she shared. She tells Aurora that he can distort his memories, make her see whatever he wants her to see. Aurora believes her to be lying. It doesn't matter either way to Jen, her father always gets what he wants, eventually. She comes to the conclusion that she should just do as she's asked and build the weapon. She too is stuck in a pattern she can't escape, but in comparison to her, she at least knows it.

In This Can Only End in Blood, at Torch 'n Toke, Jen works on her father's weapon. Impatiently, Ken questions how much longer it will take. Jen responds, telling him to chill considering she's smithing something that has never existed before. Ken doesn't appreciate the backtalk and only requires her skill. Due to her insolence, he questions if he should return her to her prison or perhaps force her to build a more painful one. With her spear complete, she begs him to let her go. Ken picks up and admires the weapon, boasting of the day he no longer needs to see her shameful face. He commands that she will go nowhere until her weapon is proven true against the tribrid. Jen assures him that god magic plus Red Oak ash equals a lethal combo for the tribrid that is if he can stick it in her heart. Brandishing the spear against her neck, Ken threatens that she better not be lying to him again, otherwise she can pray to some other god.

Hope appears behind Ken, mocking him by saying she wouldn't bother and they tend to suck. Her unexpected appearance surprises him and questions why she's come. Hope explains that Cleo told her that only one person has to die. She's come to accept his terms. As self-sacrificing as it is, it's also disappointing. However, Hope has actually come to issue her own challenge, according to the Old Ways. Trial by single combat. Between her and him. Ken assumes that Ben has informed her of their customs. Hope confirms that he has and that once a challenge is issued, it can't be refused. She proposes to start the battle in two hours at the school. He accepts, but decides why wait when she's here, now. He takes the spear and lunges it towards her; however, instead of the spear impaling her, it goes through her and strikes a bearing wall behind her. Jen compliments her on her sweet move, while Hope assumed Ken would try something so shady, hence the astral projection. She tells him she'll see him on the battlefield and disappears.

True to his word, Ken chains her to steel beam and leaves her alone to face Hope. She's woken up by Cleo, who's infiltrated her hideout. She questions if she's here to bust her out since Ken is having trust issues. Asking for her hammer, she notices the pellets leading to the sarcophagi. She realizes that Cleo is not here to save her; instead, she's here to kill her family.

Jen didn't believe Cleo had it in her. Sneaking in to try and murder her family in their sleep. Cleo admits that she wanted to hurt her father as he did her. In truth, she hadn't stopped to think of the people she'd be killing, that is until she saw her. She apologizes to Jen, and she accepts. Ken brings out the worst in everyone around him, including herself. Cleo confesses that she doesn't know what to do with all of this anger; what is the point in being a Fury if it leads her down a path she cannot go. It's infuriating for her. Jen perks up with this news, asking who told her she's a Fury. Cleo explains that it was her father and this excites her. She was right, that she was more than just an oracle. This changes everything. Before Malivore, the Furies were the thing that Ken feared. She goes on to explain that the Furies have a special connection to the minds of all gods. Cleo places a hand on Jen's forehead at her request.

Later that day, with her family spared and Cleo gone, her god chains break open. Much to her surprise, she's relieved that they did it; they've defeated her father and she's free.
